Saturday Calliope Ride Jan 2013

Well it seems the Saturday ride from Calliope is a popular ride with 28 riders fronting this morning. The temperature was pretty kind early on once at Calliope but as those that rode from Tannum would tell you it was pretty warm until the little gully just before Calliope. The pace was on from Tannum too with Wayne cracking the whip ; the plan worked a treat Wayne you softened them up nicely...
The 3 groups headed off and from what I can tell you they all would have been back to the brew shop within 10 minutes if all had gone to plan. The slower group plugged out and I did hold them back a little so they wouldn't get too excited too early and do the last part of the ride in the hurt locker. The trip back was a lot quicker and the stronger riders in the group flexed some muscle towards the end. Watch out for Kaye (not the little cranky one) as she is a powerhouse!
Jenny suffered today but she kept at it and made it back for her first 60k ride. Jody also claimed her first 60k ride and learnt you can't gasbag just before hills and expect no consequences. Karleen and Alison did it easy until the last couple of k's when the blow torch was applied. Ronnie, Mark, Greg, Gary and John ( I hope I have that right) all rode a solid ride and did it easy.
Suzette, Carol and Ankia also claimed their first 50k ride! Champion effort ladies.
The 80k group had a retirement with Cath suffering a very uncharacteristic meltdown on the way back, I'd blame the coach Cath ;) hope you feel now. I hear that Kaye was cracking the whip in that group and rode well....Of course Colisimo did it easy. Not sure where the Greek snuck onto the group but I'm sure he would have sucked a wheel all the way back ;).
The fast 90 group was the 'Quiet' ride from what I hear with oxygen a premium, hence the lack of chit chat!
I can't finish without mentioning the rider that went down in the car park....and you thought nobody saw....I won't mention any names but he does have a very Greek look about him.....:)
