Noosa 2013

How good was Noosa this year. Perfect weather, so many choices for brew shops, so many choices for rides, more of everything.
Most arrived on Thursday and in time for a quick late afternoon roll around Noosa courtesy of our guide, 'The Menace'. The next morning it was up and away at 6am for a roll to Coolum for coffee of course. Saturday morning the numbers were down with some wanting to take it easy and shop, but we still did a great ride to Boreen Point and back.
Sunday was what we all headed down for and it was great to run into so many others riders from the Gladstone area. Plenty of M1 riders were there with a few from Dave's shop as well.
That night a few drinks were consumed and a good time had by all.
Monday saw another trip to Coolum before packing up and heading home. A lucky few are still down there enjoying the good life. Pretty sure there are plenty of people looking at real estate!
A few pics of the weekend. More to come once I can get a hold of them from the phone!

The Tailor Strikes

Seems like a hint of cool in the air was enough for the Tailor to start work.

Noosa!

For most it's only a few days away now before the journey south to Noosa begins. Excited covers pretty much everyone, and why wouldn't you be getting to ride on roads that are predominately hot mix and have a bike lane. To add to this the vast majority of drivers are very tolerant of cyclists and actually wait before passing on some pinch points!
Stay tuned as I'll post up some rides and get together's for anyone interested in the coming days.
Just imagine if you weren't going down, how bad would that be?

Saturday Wrap

Saturday was the last Calliope ride leading up to Noosa and while it wasn't anywhere near the biggest turnout we've had it was still a great ride. The ride to Calliope was as usual a very firm pace with the usual suspects pushing it along. The groups splintered very early on as everyone settled into their pace for the ride. The wind was kind with not too much headwind until about 30k's out where it did pick up, which was welcomed as it would only help push us home. The Fox and Craig worked poor old Scotty over on the way back with some pace, which was surprising as he's been very strong in recent weeks, must have been one of those days. The G String showed some old form and put the hurt on the quicker guys that turned early from all repots, looking at Graeme it was obvious it got a little hot!
How good does Robin's new ride look! A very nice bike. Must go alright too as she 'smashed' the guys she did the hundy with :)
By the time the Fox and Scotty got back to Tannum they were a little worse for wear by the look of them, it was a big day for those 2 though, being a little soft wouldn't help though I guess......

Calliope Ride

This Saturday is the last Calliope ride leading up to Noosa so a good one to have under your belt. The start time is changing to 6am from Calliope to allow for the lack of light at 5:30. Riders will be leaving from Tannum Coffee Club at 5am to make the start of the ride from Calliope IGA. Distances will be 100 and 80 but you can of course turn back whenever you want. Each distance will no doubt break into a couple of groups along the way so everyone should find a pace that is comfortable. If it’s raining make your own call on whether to ride or not but don’t expect to see many there if it does.

Yep you're right this is a completely random picture.

State Crit Champs

Quite a few locals traveled south to Noosa for the State Crit champs with some strong results. Dylan came in 5th in the under 19's after trying to sneak off the front only to be caught. Brad had a great 6th in the under 23's and makes us wonder ' what if he got serious'. I hear Matt from M1 stormed home to claim 8th from near the back of the pack. Mick Newell is still far from fit I think and was pack filler of his own admission. Cat came in 4th in her division, great effort.

Dylan digging deep.
Brad at the pointy end
Can't say he doesn't have a good go.....

What the!

Port Curtis Bicycle User Group

Last Thursday a few of us headed in to the meeting that was held to bring all groups in our region together to discuss a way forward on ultimately making biking safer for everyone. The meeting was well run and everybody was respectful and calm as various issues were discussed. 2 council members came along which was well received and added valuable contributions to the discussions. In the end a group of 7 people that represent the various groups was formed and will be in time incorporated. In this group we have 2 Grinders so Tannum will be well accounted for. This group will advise the council on the issues and various options to improve on the infrastructure of the region so all groups are catered for.
For a more detailed account of what happened and what has happened since go to the Port Curtis Bicycle User Group on Facebook.
