Soggy Wednesday

A great ride today with a more than a few man - bike separations to keep everyone amused. Waynes woes with bike problems continued with a few stops here and there and eventually leading to an early end to the ride for him. The G takes the Trophy (again) for the most spectacular get off riding through the little grand canyon (it has a very rough bottom with jagged rocks) and stopping abruptly before doing the leap into the water. Wayne followed and also stalled but just managed to keep it upright. Marty also came unstuck (much to my delight) but just managed to not go for a swim; If only I could have got a photo that wasn’t blurry. Robin also found the little crossing hard going and had to jump off to prevent going for a dip. I don’t know what was so tricky about, didn’t seem hard to me……..
Later during the ride I did learn that when your cleats fill up with mud they are very hard to unclip….I managed to stop next to the G and promptly smash into his bike as I fell over……not sure why everyone was laughing.

EPIC FAIL!

Wayne what were you thinking?

They were the only dry pants I had left?
They shrunk in the wash?
I’m coming out?
I wanted my tan line higher?
I thought they were hip?
Simply put there is no acceptable excuse why these were worn. For the others that rode today I have a Trauma Counselor arranged.

After the rain

It was great to see rain ease and the blue skies return once again; I know we needed the rain but…….. Old Tannum road sustained some pretty substantial damage from the runoff and to make matters worse it was the only way in and out for a couple of days so it experienced a lot of traffic. Here are a couple of pictures of just some of the damage and this was before the last night of heavy rain.

Roast Anyone?

The Monday Roast sure lived up to its name with the group splintering about halfway through the ride. I was thinking the pace was a little more subdued to start off with people thinking about the hills (hills for us out this way) that lay ahead, but then we hit the first incline and bang off goes the first attack for the ride. The inclusion of Cremorne Drive definitely gives people something to think about as it looks easy enough, but give it some respect because it can sneak up on you if you go too early. In the end I think everyone was pretty smashed so mission accomplished.
Don’t forget Wednesday is Mountain Bike time and with some moisture around there actually might be some traction and no dust!!! Ride leaves Tannum side of the Bridge on the grassed area at 5pm. A great social ride that’s lots of fun, with some intermittent suffering…..
