General update

Hi all, sorry I've been a little slack of late but I've been a little distracted of late....This week the long sleeved jersey appeared and looks pretty good if I do say so myself; and proving popular. With the order we will put up numbers in a spreadsheet so you can see how the numbers are looking for each piece of kit early next week.  We need a minimum of 10 of each item to get it to go into production - so say the long sleeved jersey in a men's cut, we need 10 of them or the order for them doesn't go ahead. Looking at it most are getting close to 10 but some still have some way to go so they may not be ordered. Hope I didn't lose you. The order will close at the end of the month so if you're sitting on the fence it's time to get off!

This weekend we have a good number of riders heading to the Brissy to the Bay ride. I won't go into detail as I'm sure you have seen it all on the FB page. Riding with around 5000 other riders should be enough to impress make most people as you look at just how massive that group is ;-) can't wait!

I've been riding in Gladstone a little bit of late to escape our tiny network of roads out here and it's been  refreshing to ride on so much hotmix! Kirkwood is still a great ride even though it's getting a lot more traffic now-days with all the estates sprouting up. There are some good options around Gladstone if you know where to look but traffic is once again the enemy here so be careful. I was in there early on Saturday and was very impressed by the number of riders out and about in small groups let alone the larger shop rides.

Rides this weekend will still be on but a lot will be away. I'm guessing the 7am dam ride from the coffee club will be popular especially given the temperature change making it hard to get out of bed. Of course the surf club ride at 7am on Sunday will be happening.

I did hear that Robin has ventured back onto the bike after her stack a few weeks ago! That's a pretty impressive effort if I do say so myself.

Hold on to your hats

Today they finally removed the barriers from both sides of the Riverstone Rise roundabout!!!!
Fingers crossed they sweep the shoulder where they were because it's a shocker! Still, it's a step in the right direction.

Snap Send Solve

I've been using this app on my phone for a while now and the last 3 times I did the (hold onto your hats) council were quick to fix the issue; this has not always been the case. For example I sent off an issue about the debris buildup on Tannum road on Monday and today it's been swept today!
The app is easy to use but just remember to turn on the GPS on your phone first while you use it. The GPS gives the location but also finds the right council to send it to. Once you open the app it's pretty straight forward, select your issue (clearly cycling related) and then go to notes, this is where you give them detail on the issue and I add more specific location details. You can then 'Snap' a picture of the issue or add one from your phone already. From there you submit and it will prepare an email ready to send to the council, you just have to hit send. Done.

Limited Giro Jersey

After much anticipation this is the Limited Edition Giro Jersey I've been talking about. The actual pink of the shirt can't be generated on a computer so this picture just doesn't do it justice, but trust me when I say it's very bright. This should appeal to the people that have liked the Grinder gear but thought it a little too dark. It will only come as a jersey as it will match the existing bottoms. Better get in quick with your orders because it's looking like we are getting some good numbers for some items now.

The Dingle Bingle

While nobody likes to see somebody go down, sometimes to all but the poor soul who goes down it can be quite funny...Take poor Brian for instance, he gets it wrong at the lights and next thing splat down he goes. The fact that he stopped traffic coming the other way as well with how he fell only added to the amusement of his riding 'mates'. I'm sure almost everyone knows what he might of felt like....Karma will catch up with them Brian...lol

A BIG Weekend for all the wrong reasons

Well I guess by now everyone has heard about the accident on Saturday that resulted in Robin and Mike going down, and then Robin getting a ride to hospital in the ambulance. What's worse is that by the time Robin got there, 4 others riders from our local region had been there for treatment! When you look at it, the most likely reason (when riding in a bunch) for a crash, is touching a wheel in front of you. A very unpleasant experience I assure you.
When riding in a group you have to concentrate on the wheel you're following for obvious reasons. When external factors like road conditions and lets face it some idiots in cars, trucks and buses, go out of their way to intimidate you, that concentration is diminished. In recent times I have had some close calls where I have almost been sick from how close I have come to being hit and have seriously considered giving it away. Sure riding a bike can be dangerous but there are things that can be done to make it lot safer for cyclists wanting to use the road. I'm not going to go on about what can be done as I'm sure you all know our Port Curtis Bicycle Users Group (BUG) is looking at this already.
If only some of the Councillors would stand on the shoulder (if there even is one!) of the busy roads  cyclists ride, they would have some insight into what we experience every time we head out for a ride. If they are "lucky", they may even get some idiot in a car get close enough to them hoping they will intimidate you because it's "their road" or just thinking it's funny. I know this will never happen.
Since the 2 Councils amalgamated, our local Council can't even manage to cut the grass on the sides of roads until it's 6 feet high; or sweep the roads at regular intervals - basic nuts and bolts stuff they can't get right anymore. I know they are busy, who isn't these days, but come the day someone should not make it home from a ride, how will they feel knowing they could have done something that could have gone a long way to preventing such a tragic event.
