Wednesday MB Ride

Yesterdays Mountain Bike ride wasn’t the dust free epic traction ride we were hoping for but it was still a little better than previous weeks. 5 starters for the ride which seems pretty common but we did manage to pick up a newbie in the bush (Mike) on his brand new Trek carbon machine. Usual tracks were there with a couple of old half grown over ridden just to mix it up. I think Marty’s afraid of snakes because I’m sure he thought he saw one judging by the speed he went up Conservation Hill; the G and I were impressed, but only a little bit. Of course I knew what he was up to…..that one is safe rest assured Marty. The G rode well and looks a little more at ease in the bush; yes I’m just saying that to make him feel good about himself.
Wayne flatted which I was stoked about because it meant I could have a rest, of course Steve and Marty thought we should do an extra loop while Wayne fixed his flat, those guys are so thoughtful!!!
We went to the bigger hills where I tried and tried again to get up my nemesis but to no avail, close but no cigar, on my third attempt my legs went jelly. Wayne had 1 crack and jumped off early as did the G string, Steve had a couple of cracks as well and Marty the alien did it first go.

Farewell to Dylan

This Thursday we're having a few drinks and a feed down the Surf Club after the ride to say farewell to Dylan before he heads off south. Please come along to see the young fella off as he starts what will be an amazing life as a full time cyclist. Be good to get a picture with him too, might be worth something one day!!
Don't forget lights front and rear if you stay and you plan on riding home.

Post Thursday Roll

 Hydration is very important!

Saturday Calliope Ride Jan 2013

Well it seems the Saturday ride from Calliope is a popular ride with 28 riders fronting this morning. The temperature was pretty kind early on once at Calliope but as those that rode from Tannum would tell you it was pretty warm until the little gully just before Calliope. The pace was on from Tannum too with Wayne cracking the whip ; the plan worked a treat Wayne you softened them up nicely...
The 3 groups headed off and from what I can tell you they all would have been back to the brew shop within 10 minutes if all had gone to plan. The slower group plugged out and I did hold them back a little so they wouldn't get too excited too early and do the last part of the ride in the hurt locker. The trip back was a lot quicker and the stronger riders in the group flexed some muscle towards the end. Watch out for Kaye (not the little cranky one) as she is a powerhouse!
Jenny suffered today but she kept at it and made it back for her first 60k ride. Jody also claimed her first 60k ride and learnt you can't gasbag just before hills and expect no consequences. Karleen and Alison did it easy until the last couple of k's when the blow torch was applied. Ronnie, Mark, Greg, Gary and John ( I hope I have that right) all rode a solid ride and did it easy.
Suzette, Carol and Ankia also claimed their first 50k ride! Champion effort ladies.
The 80k group had a retirement with Cath suffering a very uncharacteristic meltdown on the way back, I'd blame the coach Cath ;) hope you feel now. I hear that Kaye was cracking the whip in that group and rode well....Of course Colisimo did it easy. Not sure where the Greek snuck onto the group but I'm sure he would have sucked a wheel all the way back ;).
The fast 90 group was the 'Quiet' ride from what I hear with oxygen a premium, hence the lack of chit chat!
I can't finish without mentioning the rider that went down in the car park....and you thought nobody saw....I won't mention any names but he does have a very Greek look about him.....:)

Whoa!!!

Well we had more than a few new faces tonight, and some old familiar ones we haven't seen for a while which was great to see. I'm pretty sure we had 20 riders that split into 2 groups from the get go. For once the 'more relaxed pace' ride out numbered the quicker group! While the slower ride was a little slow towards the end it was a good ride to see how many of the newer riders rode. Next week it will be up a little ;)

A new Year

A great turnout for the Mountain Bike ride considering the heat with 7 riders fronting. The decision to head to the hills was a popular one (nobody said no….) so hills it was to be. The usual warm up loops were ridden before heading ‘up’. Yes it was warm but after some Christmas cheer and  a few weeks off the mountain bike I for one found the going a bit tougher than normal sweating like a madman. Along the way we were jeered by a couple of old roadies heading out to the Smelter, they looked a little weary judging from how slow they were going :)   7 soon became 6 and so on till there were just 3 left to finish off the ride; a good solid ride to start off the New Year. I won't name the rider that decided to go home when Steve mentioned a technical downhill was where were heading next.....

Tomorrow sees the Thursday roll back into full swing and from what I’ve heard there should be some new faces joining in - a new record in attendance?

Crit racing returns this weekend in Rocky at the Parkhurst circuit on Sunday. For anyone that doesn’t know what a Crit is its basically circuit racing for a set time then 3 laps once that time is up. Very fast and furious racing and great to watch as the riders are always coming past.

This Saturdays rides from Calliope are also shaping to be popular once again for all distances. Just remember leaving 5:30am sharp from the IGA.

I will try to make posts on here a more regular occurrence for 2013. New for this year I have a mystery blogger who will make random posts to assist in keeping the site ticking over. If you have a story or photo you want on here just shoot it through to me.

Dylan at the Noosa Crit

Dylan stepped up again on the weekend at the Noosa Crit, to finish at the pointy end of this race is no mean feat and that's exactly what he did (The Coffee Grinder kit must have helped....). To be comfirmed but he came home around 12th position from around 25 finishers, 60 started! Some of the group he finished with contained riders from Lotto, Argos Shimano, Orica Green Edge, Drapac, Budget Forklifts,Champion System, Team Raleigh (UK) and a few locals thrown in for good measure.
Well done Dylan, all the hard work (having a heart as big as Pharlap would help) is paying off.
